Serama Bantams originate in Malaysia, where the breed was developed through decades of selective breeding of small native chickens. Early breeders focused not on egg production or meat yield, but on posture, balance, and presence. The goal was to create a bird with upright carriage, a prominent chest, and a confident demeanor—traits that would later define the Serama worldwide.

The breed was eventually introduced to the United States, where it was further refined into what is now known as the American Serama. Through careful standardization and disciplined selection, American breeders established consistent expectations for size, structure, temperament, and presentation. Today, Seramas are officially recognized by the American Bantam Association as the smallest recognized breed of chicken in the world.

Despite their size, Seramas possess an outsized presence. A correct Serama stands tall with a vertical posture, chest pushed forward, wings carried low, and head held high. In exhibition settings—particularly during tabletop judging—Seramas are often described as looking like tiny bodybuilders, confidently puffing their chests and holding posture with remarkable composure. This dramatic stance is not accidental; it is the result of careful breeding that balances expression with physical stability.

Mature birds in our program typically weigh approximately twelve to sixteen ounces, placing them firmly in true micro-bantam territory. Their size makes them uniquely adaptable and approachable, especially for those who want poultry without the space or feed requirements of larger breeds.

Our Seramas are bred in American Bantam Association–accepted colors, including black, blue, splash, white, wheaten, exchequer, and ginger red. Color refinement is always secondary to structure, posture, and health. Each bird is evaluated individually as it matures to ensure balance, composure, and vitality before contributing to future generations.

With proper care and cleanliness, Seramas can even be kept indoors, functioning more like companion animals than traditional livestock.

Despite their miniature stature, Seramas are surprisingly productive layers. Hens typically lay approximately two hundred to two hundred fifty small eggs per year. These eggs are fully edible and nutritious, no different from standard chicken eggs aside from size.
